Object: The Rosette Nebula, in the constellation of Monoceros, is a large emission nebula about 5,000 l.y. away and is about 90 l.y. across. The wind from the open cluster NGC 2244 has blown a hole in the nebula's centre. The image also shows filaments of dark dust that lace through the nebula's gases. The nebula actually lies at the right end of a much fainter emission nebula that extends across 3 degrees of the sky.
