| Object: | The California Nebula, in the constellation of Perseus, is a large emission nebula which gets it name from its resemblance to the US state. The nebula is about 2,000 l.y away and is caused to luminesce by the 4th magnitude star Xi Per. It is very large in extent, some five Moon diameters in length, but rather faint and is a difficult object to view visually through a telescope. | |
